Former Tennessee State Senator Brian Kelsey is now free after he was pardoned by President Donald Trump.
Kelsey had entered federal prison two weeks ago after his conviction on federal campaign finance charges. He was supposed to serve a 21-month sentence.
Kelsey announced his pardon on social media.
He said in a tweet, “God used Donald Trump to save me from the weaponized Biden DOJ. Thank you for all your prayers. Praise the Lord most high! May God bless America, despite the prosecutorial sins it committed against me, President Trump, and others the past four years. And God bless Donald J. Trump for Making America Great Again.”
Kelsey pleaded guilty in 2022 to an illegal campaign finance scheme for his failed 2016 congressional bid. He then tried and failed to take back his plea.
