Paris, Tenn.–They were bidding high and bidding often Monday at the Henry County Helping Hand Radio Auction. First Christian Church and the Literacy Council raised $8,898, bringing the year-to-date total to $210,380.
There were 19 slates of items and bidding was fierce, with a few bidding wars taking place. A caramel cake went for $400 and banana pudding went for $1,105.
Auctioneer was Ray Compton, with the Athena Delphian group manning the phones.
The auction goes from January 6 through February 26.
Monday items will be donated by: First Christian Church and Literacy Council.
Tuesday items: Veterans organizations, VFW Post, Amvets Post, Darkhorse Lodge, American Legion Post and Paris Elks Lodge.
Wednesday items: Walmart, Covenant Ranch, New Wave Buddy Ball and Tennessee Valley Board of Realtors.
Auction phone is 644 1695. The auction is held at the Paris Convention Center at 1510 East Wood St., Paris. Dozens of groups and local communities raise thousands of dollars each year for over 90 non-profit service organizations.

The auction begins at 12:30p.m. on weekdays and noon on Saturdays.
