
On January 24, 2025, Larry Lawson Bolding passed peacefully, surrounded by family, to join his wife of 62 years, Martha Jane Hailey Bolding; his parents, Vivian & Boss Bolding; and his grandson, Andrew Bolding Jr, in heaven.
In Larry’s 86 years, he served his country in the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He was in the first class sworn into the Nuclear Submarine force in 1957, at the Ryman Auditorium. He spent 10 years on nuclear submarines serving on the USS Trident, USS Sam Houston, and the USS Nautilus, before moving to surface Ships where he served on the USS Denver in Vietnam, and then ending his Naval career in Norfolk, VA on the Aircraft Carrier USS America in the Mediterranean. Larry traveled to 49 countries while serving in the Navy.
In 22 years, Larry, along with Martha Jane and their children, Andy & Kathy; made 17 moves from the East coast to West Coast and then back again. They lived in San Diego, CA, Newport News, VA, Charleston, SC, Groton, CT, Zion, IL, Seattle, WA, Long Beach, CA, Los Alamitos, CA, Indianapolis, IN, Virginia Beach, VA.
After retiring from the Navy, Larry was with Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 20 years, after 4 years with Haas Cabinet Company in Southern Indiana, when he retired full-time.
In their 20-year retirement, Larry and Jane traveled to all 50 states, as well as Canada, the Northwest corridor and all of Alaska and Mexico. In 20 years, with 3 motor coaches, they traveled more than a million miles. They spent winters in Mercedes, Texas and Mobile Bay, Alabama. They enjoyed sailing and traveling with Larry’s brother, Mark, and his wife, Pat, for many happy years.
Larry and Jane lived on North Poplar Street in Paris for 34 happy years, enjoying their home and the neighborhood.
After Janes’ passing, Larry’s last few years and many good times were shared with Anna Ruth Crocker Bolding, his second wife and high school friend. She survives of East Tennessee.
Larry was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Additionally, Larry was a Mason for more than 50 years and a member of the Masonic Lodge # 108, as well as a Shriner and Scottish Rite.
Larry is survived by his son, Andrew (Emily) Lawson of Springville, TN; his daughter, Kathy Scira of Paris, TN; his brother, Mark (Pat) Bolding of Paris, TN; his grandsons, John (Amy) Scira of Boston, MA, and Alexander Scira of Paris, TN; his great granddaughter, Erin Brook Lock of Huntingdon, TN; his nieces, Ann (Dave) Cullen of Springville, TN, Lee (Eric) Owenby of Springville, TN; and nephews, John Peddy of Springville, TN, Chris (Carol) Bolding of Springville, TN, and Michael (Maria) Bolding Paris, TN.
Larry had a wonderful life. He will be missed.
Service will be held at Parkers Crossroad Veterans Cemetery; all are welcome to attend. Date and time to be announced.
