Union City, Tenn.–Addison Kitchen can truly sing with the best of them.

The Union City High School junior recently was a selected participant in the 2024 Tennessee Music Educators Association SSAA All-State Choir in Nashville.

Kitchen, who was chosen as an alternate for the honor last year, is the first UCHS student to actually perform with the elite group – though others have been selected, according to Union City Middle/High School music teacher Allison Butner.

Addison was one of 16 Soprano 2’s from West Tennessee to earn the spot. More than 70 students from high schools across Tennessee auditioned for the honor. Students had to first audition and be chosen from the All-West Choir in order to try-out for the All State Choir.

Tryouts were judged by West Tennessee choir directors, with students singing excerpts from All-West choral literature and sight read.

All-State students are chosen from three regions: West, Middle, and East Tennessee.

“I was very proud of Addison,” Butner said. “She represented Union City Schools well and was very deserving of the honor.”
