Buchanan, Tenn.–A total of 5,157 pounds of litter and trash was removed from the Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake with 22 volunteers working from the shorelines in Buchanan, Tenn. and Murray, Ky. in the second leg of the 5th annual Tennessee River Grand Slam Cleanup Series. This is a part of Keep the Tennessee River Beautiful.
That’s approaching 10,000 lbs. of trash within the first two cleanups of the cleanup series.
At this cleanup partnered with Living Lands and Waters and Keep Paris/Henry County Beautiful – Henry County Litter Program, they had two boatloads of volunteers remove three boatloads of trash–a successful day!! The trash collected included 116 bags of litter, 12 tires, 271 lbs. of random plastic, a 1,000-lb. metal framed 25-foot dock, 159 sq ft of dock foam, a construction barrel, a fire extinguisher, and much more.
Thanks so much to @cypress bay resort for allowing them to launch from their boat ramp, @kinsey disposal service for donating a dumpster to haul away all of the trash collected, and Keep Paris/Henry County Beautiful for recycling the tires and scrap metal collected.
They want to thank our sponsors of the series who had staff volunteering at this cleanup, too: Nobody Trashes Tennessee andTennessee Valley Authority – Thank you! The series is also supported by @Keep America Beautiful and Keep Tennessee Beautiful.
