Paris, Tenn.–The Henry County Sheriff’s Office honored Lt. Gary Vandiver on his retirement after 43 years in law enforcement Friday.

Sheriff Josh Frey said, “It’s very much a loss for the sheriff’s office. His desire and expertise, especially in working in child abuse cases, is invaluable. But fortunately, he passed that knowledge on to so many others at the sheriff’s office. He’s leaving us in good hands.”

Vandiver was presented with the Loyal Patriot Award, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a Henry County citizen, at his retirement, which was attended by a large number of family, friends and co-workers.

Vandiver was instrumental in setting up the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse in Paris and Frey said, “His reach was farther than law enforcement. He touched so many lives during his career. It’s quite a legacy he leaves behind.”

Frey said Investigator David Andrews will replace Vandiver.
