Union City, Tenn.— A group of Obion County students has been selected to take part in the Union City Rotary Club’s student travel program in 2024. The students, who are from South Fulton High School, Obion County Central High School, Union City High School or are homeschooled, will travel to Europe and Washington, D.C. this summer. These will be the first two groups since the Union City Rotary Club began working with Global Citizen Adventure Corps, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization designed to cultivate global citizen leaders through education, travel, and service opportunities. The partnership with Global Citizens Adventure Corps will also allow participating students the opportunity to earn three hours of transferable college credit through Bethel University.
Selections of students for the trips were made by the Rotary Travel Committee after an application and interview process. The chaperones for the trip to Europe are David and Paula Houston and the chaperones for the trip to Washington, D.C. are Shiloh and George Leake.
Since 2009, the Union City Rotary Club has facilitated trips for 92 students to Washington, D.C., 117 students to Europe and 8 students to the Western U.S. This represents a financial investment of more than $800,000. The Europe trip is funded each year by the Robert E. And Jenny D. Kirkland Foundation and the D.C. trip is funded by an anonymous donor.
