Paris, TN – Robotics provide students an opportunity to skillfully display their knowledge of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM.) For that reason, Dana Incorporated sponsored the Henry County High School Robotics Club to compete in the Botball Educational Robotics Program competition earlier this month. Nine high school students attended the KISS Institute for Practical Robotics and Botball Competition at the Dana Chapter’s Ohio headquarters in Maumee where students from across the country gathered to battle for the best robot.
The competition challenge was to build a robot from a kit of parts and write the code that would command the robot to serve food. The team received points for the tasks of coding the robot, to pick up drinks and food, and follow commands that were presented. Although the team did not place in this competition, they came back with a Judge’s Choice Award for Best 3-D Designed Part, as well as ideas on how to improve for next year’s competition.
“The best part of going to these competitions is watching students apply what they’ve learned in physics and in STEM class,” said teacher and club sponsor, Matthew Chisolm. “We learn so much from the engineers at Dana.” Being new to the competition, Chisolm explains this is only the second year the high school has competed in the event but they look forward to many more.
