Aurora, Ky.–The Tennessee Valley Authority is watching a weather system that could bring historic heavy rain to Western Kentucky and West Tennessee. Up to 12 inches of rain is possible in the most impacted areas over a 4-5 day period starting today.
Before the heavy rain starts, they’re releasing nearly 1 million gallons of water per second from Kentucky Dam on the Tennessee River to create storage in the lake, which is expected to rise near summer pool elevations later this week.
TVA officials are coordinating with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Great Lakes and Ohio River Division to help reduce potential flooding on the lower Ohio River. Stay tuned to local news media and the U.S. National Weather Service (NWS) if you live in the impacted area.
