Paris, Tenn.–After just an hour of deliberations, a Henry County Circuit Court jury found Joey Wayne Smith not guilty of aggravated sexual battery. The alleged victim was a minor child.
Closing arguments in the case began around 4:14 p.m., with deliberations starting at 4:50 p.m. The jury returned its verdict at 5:47 p.m. The case was heard by Judge Bruce Griffey.
Appearing for the state was Assistant District Attorney Morgan Crocker. Attorney for the defendant was Kaylee Houston.
