
Buchanan, Tenn.–On Saturday March 22nd, the Paris Landing Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to
three separate brush fires, according to Chief Reggie Coles, starting at 2 p.m. and going through until late night.
Coles said, “Paris Landing Fire Department would like to remind everyone that a Burn
Ban is in effect for all of West Tennessee. No open burning is allowed
and no permits are being issued. Permits are required between October
15 and May 15 each year. Permits are free and may be obtained over the
phone by calling 731-642-3808 Monday-Friday. Or online at burnsafetn.org.”
1. At approximately 2 pm Paris Landing Fire Dept and the Tennessee
Forestry Service were dispatched to 200 Bull Durham Road in Buchanan for
a report of a brush fire. Arriving units found an approximate four acre
brush fire rapidly spreading out of control. Due to extremely difficult
terrain and high winds, firefighters were only able to protect
surrounding structures until Forestry arrived with the Fire Plow to
contain the fire. Paris Landing responded with 3 trucks and 4
personnel, Forestry responded with 2 units and 2 personnel. Units were
on the scene for 2 hours. The home owner was trying to burn an old
stump and the wind caused the fire to spread. The owner was unaware of a
burn ban currently in effect.
2. While returning to the Station from the previous fire, Paris Landing
was dispatched to 1145 Nanney Road in Buchanan for a report of another
brush fire. Arriving units found several separate fires along a woods
line. This was found to be a controlled burn with no one present to
watch the fire. The owner arrived back on scene and stated he was
unaware of a burn ban currently in effect as well. The fires were
extinguished. Paris Landing responded with 3 trucks and 4 personnel,
Forestry responded with 2 units and 2 personnel. Units were on the scene
for 1 hour.
3. At 9 pm, Paris Landing Fire Dept and the Tennessee Forestry
Service were dispatched to 29 Lake Road in Springville for a report of a
brush fire. Arriving units found a male subject burning leaves in a
ditch. The owner stated he was unaware of the burn ban and stated he
would extinguish the fire. Forestry was cancelled. Paris Landing units
assisted the home owner with extinguishing the fire. Paris Landing
responded with 2 trucks and 4 personnel, units were on the scene for 30
minutes.
