MARTIN, Tenn. – Applications opened March 1 for the University of Tennessee at Martin WestTeach Program and will be accepted until April 1. Apply online at www.utm.edu/westteach or nominate a teacher by emailing Jennifer Smiley, WestStar assistant director, at jblack32@utm.edu.
WestTeach began as a class project by the 2017 WestStar Leadership class to support teacher development. A new WestTeach class is selected annually by the program’s advisory council following nominations by school superintendents and directors. West Tennessee teachers selected for the program learn about the region’s economic needs and opportunities.
Teachers in each class meet with regional industry and community leaders to learn what their students might experience outside the classroom, in the workplace and beyond. A total of 111 teachers have completed the program since it began.
The Leaders Education Foundation is the program’s signature sponsor.
