Elbert Wayne “Butch” Camper, Jr., age 71 of Puryear, TN passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. His funeral service will be Tuesday, February 25th at 12:00 pm at McEvoy Funeral Home with Craig Peevyhouse officiating. A private family burial will be held after the service. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm Monday, February 24th at McEvoy Funeral Home, and after 10:00 am Tuesday until service time at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Elbert Wayne Camper, Jr., was born November 4, 1953, in Chicago, IL to the late Elbert Wayne and Susan Ruth Emery Camper. On December 3, 1971, he married Carolyn Whitehead Camper who survives in Puryear, TN.

Butch was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, and he retired from Tecumseh Products after 35 years of service. Butch was a lifetime member of the Two-Rivers Bass Club. Hunting and fishing were his life.

In addition to his wife, Butch is also survived by five daughters: Teresa (Troy) Bennett, Patricia Mayhew, Sarah (Shane) Lindley, Cristy (Chase) Witherspoon, and Keri Camper, all of Puryear; son, Wayne (Angela) Camper of Pleasant View, TN; 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Besides his parents, Butch was also preceded in death by two sisters: Virgie Hutto and Rose Mary Carroll; and a brother, Albert D. “Buster” Camper.

Pallbearers for Mr. Camper will be Troy Bennett, Chase Witherspoon, Shane Lindley, Josh Yeager, Derrick Hargrove, and Blake Coleman.
