Union City, Tenn.–One more accolade has capped Malaki Brooks’ spectacular senior season.
The Union City High School basketball standout has been named to the Class 1A Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State Team by a vote of the organization’s membership.
The 6-foot scoring sensation, who last week chose Walters State Community College as his next-level destination, was one of just two rural West Tennessee selections for the 15-player squad.
Brooks was previously chosen as the West Tennessee Player of the Year by the Jackson Sun, the District 14A and Region 7A Most Valuable Player in both the regular season and tournament play, and also selected to participate in the BCAT All-Star Game.
He also was named a finalist for Mr. Basketball.
Brooks averaged 28.8 points per game and scored 1,010 points during his senior season when he led the Golden Tornadoes to the Class 1A state tournament and 29 wins. He averaged 33 ppg in the Tornadoes’ seven tournament contests, scoring 37 or more in five of those games.
He scored in double figures in all 35 of UC’s games, highlighted by a program record-setting 50-point outburst against Huntingdon in the Twisters’ regular season finale.
Brooks, who also led the Tornadoes in rebounding, assists, and steals, scored 30 or more points 16 times and 40 or more on four occasions.
He is the first Union City player to earn All-State honors since 2020 when Ben McMillan made the TSWA team.
