Union City, Tenn.–Consecutive day wins in the 909 Design Pre-Christmas Classic should do wonders for the Union City girls’ holiday spirit.

The Lady Tornadoes snapped a five-game losing skid with lopsided victories over host Bradford (60-23) and Munford (57-22) to head into the Christmas season with a 5-8 mark.

It was a case of ‘the more, the merrier’ for UC as the Twister girls put nine players in the scoring column in the romp over the Lady Red Devils Monday. Union City followed up that impressive showing with another feel-good triumph over Munford Tuesday in a contest where ten different players tallied for the Purple and Gold.

The Lady Tornadoes were also impressive on the defensive end in both contests, limiting their opposition to seven field goals in each game. UC additionally forced a bushel of turnovers in both games with constant defensive pressure – including 27 against Bradford on Monday.

A 20-2 outburst in the second period put the Twister girls firmly in control after they held a 13-8 advantage after the first eight minutes against the home team.

Sh’Nyla Moss had 10 of her game-high 17 points in that second frame.

Union City added to its lead with a 20-7 third frame before head coach Mason Storey emptied his bench over the final eight minutes while the clock ran continuously.

The Lady Tornadoes made 11 3-pointers in all, with Moss hitting three and Kennedi Robinson and Marlee Theobald two apiece.

Robinson totaled nine points in the contest, while Theobald and Debrionna Jones ended up with eight.

UC used the same success recipe Tuesday vs. the Lady Cougars, pitching a first-quarter shutout (13-0) and then all but wrapping up the victory with a 21-7 third segment to go up 42-15.

Jones and Moss had six markers each in that third quarter on their way to being the top scorers for the Twister girls with 15 and 11, respectively. Blair McKinnis came in with eight points, and Aujani Moss put in seven.

The Lady Tornadoes will return to action on Dec. 28 in the annual Lady Trojan Christmas Classic at Dyersburg, facing Jackson Christian School at 4:30 p.m. Union City will then play on Friday and Saturday to wind up the 2023 portion of its season.
