
Decatur County, Tenn.–The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office have released more details on the hostage situation that led to a multi-county high-speed police chase that came through Henry County last week.
Caitlind Danielle Surratt, age 29, has been charged with the following in Decatur County: Kidnapping, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment (involving two deputies), Possession of a Weapon during dangerous felony, Aggravated Assault on First Responders (x2), and Evading Arrest. The incident occurred Thursday, November 30.
Henry County and Benton County also have charges pending against her.
The incident began when Decatur County Deputies were dispatched to locate a vehicle leaving 1100 block of Fred Inman Road in reference to a female suspect who was in possession of a revolver and had a victim in the vehicle that was being held against her will. She reportedly was holding her grandmother hostage in the car at gun point.
Deputies did make contact behind the vehicle on Hwy 641 North and attempted to stop the vehicle but she immediately began to flee going through Parsons into Henderson County where deputies lost sight near the Natchez Trace Area.
A short time later the suspect and victim returned to the 1100 block of Fred Inman Road. At that point, the victim was able to get out of vehicle while the suspect remained in the vehicle. Deputies was advised by a caller of this and went to the residence to take suspect into custody.
As deputies arrived, suspect Caitlind Surratt begin driving the vehicle towards officers causing the officers to take evasive actions to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Another pursuit was initiated as Surratt fled from the scene.
Surratt continued North bound after getting on Hwy 641 North into Benton County and then into Henry County where the suspect was pursued by several different agencies. Again the suspect was able to flee from law enforcement by the reckless driving and the rate of speed Surratt was driving.
Later that night, deputies were dispatched back out to 1166 Fred Inman road in reference to the vehicle Surratt was driving being on the side of the road a few hundred feet from the residence. Deputies responded and made contact with a male subject in the residence along with suspect Caitlind Surratt. Deputies were able to get the male subject out of the residence, but suspect Surratt refused to come out and displayed the revolver she had been carrying.
Suspect eventually came out to the back porch and deputies were able to tase the suspect causing her for drop the pistol and was taken into custody.
