Paris, Tenn.–A police chase that started in Decatur County and moved into Henry County no longer involves a hostage situation, as believed earlier.
Henry County Sheriff Josh Frey told RadioNWTN that the chase came into the county around 5 p.m. with the Decatur and Benton County Sheriff’s deputies in pursuit of a woman who had been holding her grandmother against her will at gunpoint earlier.
Once the chase moved into Henry County, it included the Henry County Sheriff’s Office and Paris Police.
Frey said Decatur County authorities told him that the granddaughter had taken her grandmother against her will and at gunpoint earlier this afternoon. Decatur County law enforcement found the vehicle they were in back at their house later “and the grandmother was able to get out. The granddaughter took off again and about ran over two of their deputies,” Frey said.
“The good part is that the grandmother is not still being held,” Frey said, “so the urgency is not there that there was earlier.”
The granddaughter is driving a gray or silver Ford Escape, he said.
“We spiked the car (put spikestrips on the roadway) in the N. Poplar-N. Market area but the granddaughter took off again and the car hasn’t been seen since,” Frey said.
The granddaughter is driving a gray or silver Ford Escape, he said. Law enforcement is still seeking the car.
