Willie Montgomery Greer

Willie Montgomery Greer, 96, of the Whitlock Community, died Thursday, November 23, 2023, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.

Born Thursday, January 6, 1927, in the Whitlock Community, he was the son of the late Madison Montgomery Greer and the late Emma Butler Greer.

Willie was known by many as the Mayor of Whitlock.

He was a retired supervisor from Holley Carburetor Plant.

He served the Lord in many ways throughout his 85 years at Birds Creek Baptist Church.

Aside from being the caretaker of Birds Creek Cemetery, he worked tirelessly and devoted his life to serving the Birds Creek and Whitlock communities.

Willie was a United States Army veteran, and proud that he and five of his brothers served in WWII and returned home with only two of them wounded.  His wife of 70 years, Maxine Key Greer preceded him in death Friday, January 26, 2018.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one son: Brooks M. Greer; one brother: Socrates “Pot” Greer; along with 10 half siblings: Mary Frances, Leamon, Wallace, Frank, Odell, WH, Vernie, and June Greer, and George and Clinton Neal. Survivors include his daughter: Vikki Greer Grissom, of Paris; two grandsons: Caleb Grissom, and Cayce Grissom; a son-in-law: Chris Grissom; and a host of special nieces and nephews. Ridgeway Funeral Home 201 Dunlap St., Paris, Tennessee,  38242, will be handling the arrangements.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023, at Ridgeway Funeral Home from 4 – 7 p.m. and continue Monday, November 27, 2023, at Birds Creek Baptist Church, 2245 Whitlock Rd., Paris, Tennessee, 38242, from 10 – 11 a.m.

The funeral service will be held Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Birds Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Glynn Orr officiating. Pallbearers for the service will be: David Sullivan, Mark Rudy, Cayce Grissom, Caleb Grissom, Chris Grissom, and Jim McCampbell. Randy Valentine, Max Middleton, and the memory of those deacons that served alongside of Mr. Willie at the Birds Creek Baptist Church are named as honorary pallbearers.   Burial will follow in Birds Creek Cemetery in the Whitlock Community. Memorials may be made to:  Birds Creek Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Miranda Moon, Commercial Bank Trust Department, PO Box 1090, Paris, Tennessee, 38242.
