The West Tennessee Drug Task Force issued a warning for the public over the weekend. It states: “BEWARE! If you have an iPhone and have done the recent iOS 17 update. They have set a new feature called NameDrop to default ON. This allows the sharing of contact info just by bringing your phones close together. To shut this off go to Settings, General, AirDrop, Bringing Devices Together. Change to OFF.” Several other law enforcement agencies shared the warning on Facebook.
The Drug Task Force received a considerable amount of blowback from the public and issued another statement: “For those insinuating we are trying to scare people. it simply says beware. Nothing scary there. It’s information people should be aware of. Those with younger teens and who let children play on their phone in the store or restaurant should be aware as we all know kids will just push buttons to get back to SpongeBob and Baby Shark !”
