Union City, Tenn.–Top performers in the annual Union City Elementary School Turkey Trot/PACER Run competition received their prizes this week.
Students in kindergarten through the fourth grade combined to produce more than 13,000 cans and perishable food items for two charitable organizations that feed and assist the needy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
A majority of the items were raised as part of the annual Turkey Trot and PACER Run – a practice that allows students to collect pledges and sponsors based on the number of laps they run or walk during PE class. Other items were donated by the public.
The top three students in each grade received medals, with third-graders Miliahya Morrow and Carter Martinek presented trophies for producing the most items of all students.
Natalie Allison’s first-grade class collectively produced the most items, with more than 2,000.
