Gene Schrader, 91, of Puryear, Tennessee, died Monday, November 20, 2023, at Murray Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Kentucky.
Gene was born Tuesday, April 5, 1932, in Hazel, Kentucky, to the late George Schrader and the late Tommie Langston Schrader Austin.
He was the owner of Schrader Marble Plaster & Tile in Puryear, Tennessee.
Gene graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School in Paducah, Kentucky, and also attended Hazel High School in Hazel, Kentucky.
During his lifetime, he worked on almost every building on the campus of Murray State University.
Gene was a member of Puryear Baptist Church, where he was active serving as Sunday School Director, on the Building & Grounds committee, and as part of the Baptist Men’s Ministry. He was passionate about helping lead the effort in raising funds for a new digital sign that would keep the community informed of all that is happening in the life of Puryear Baptist Church.
He loved crappie fishing, was an avid bird hunter, raised and trained Setter dogs, and was a Mason.
He was married Wednesday, June 24, 1959, to Faye Schrader, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by three daughters: Jamie (Joe) Haynes of Murray, Kentucky, Rhonda (Randy) Wright, of Lavinia, Tennessee, and Tina (Larry) Brannon, of Puryear, Tennessee; five grandchildren: Adriane (Nick) Stokolosa, Eric (Samantha) Underwood, Blake Underwood & fiancée Brooke Inman, Doug (Erica Marrs) Brannon, and Kaitlyn (Frankie) Grande; 10 great grandchildren; and special companion: Barbara Crittendon, of Murray, Kentucky.
Arrangements are being handled by Ridgeway Funeral Home, 201 Dunlap Street/PO Box 788, Paris, Tennessee, 38242. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Ridgeway Funeral Home, and continue Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Puryear Baptist Church, 10060 Hwy 641 N. Puryear, Tennessee, 38251. The funeral service will be Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Dewayne Chadwick, Chad Kennedy, and Tony Brannon officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Tony Brannon, Kenny Gallimore, Nathan Pritchett, Dale Futrell, Doug Brannon, Eric Underwood, and Blake Underwood.
Burial will be in South Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Hazel, Kentucky.
