TWRA Limiting Volunteers To Experienced Boat Operators From Obion County

hardin-co-emergency

Savannah, Tenn.–The TWRA is asking that only volunteers from Obion County who are experienced in boat operation respond when the search for the missing fishing team members resumes Tuesday morning.

TWRA Boating Investigator Joe Campbell said, “Due to the overwhelming response to a call for volunteers, emergency managers are requesting to limit volunteers to those from Obion County who are experienced boat operators.”

Campbell said boaters should be prepared for swift water conditions and inclement weather. Checkin will begin at 7:30am Tuesday at the Botel ramp off Wharf Road in Hardin County.

The team members from Obion County Central High School–two 15-year-olds and the 43-year-old father of one of the boys–have been missing since the weekend. They were competing at a fishing tournament on Pickwick Lake.

Today, their severely damaged boat was discovered at the Savannah Bridge several miles below the Dam. According to TWRA, it is believed that the strong current pulled the boat and its occupants through the floodgates and into the maelstrom below. TWRA and Law Enforcement are suspending their search at sundown and will resume at first light tomorrow.
